For the last several years, CBSE has maintained a consistent schedule. In both 2024 and 2025, the board declared the Class 12 results on May 13. Given that the 2026 exams end in early April (similar to previous cycles), education analysts and media reports strongly suggest that the CBSE 12th Result 2026 is expected in the second week of May, likely between May 10 and May 20.
If you feel your marks need re-checking, mark these dates.
The verification process usually starts shortly after results:
- Verification Application Period: Approximately May 31 to
June 5, 2026.
- Revaluation Result: Expected by the end of June 2026.
Note: CBSE has moved to digital evaluation. Officials
suggest this reduces human error, so students should apply for revaluation only
if they suspect a significant totaling error.

Understanding the 2026 Passing Criteria
It is crucial to understand the rules to avoid anxiety.
The 33% Rule
To pass CBSE Class 12 exams, a student must score at least 33%
marks in Theory and 33% in Practical/Internal Assessment separately.
- Example (80 Marks Theory): You need 27 out of 80 to pass
the theory component (33% of 80).
- Compartment: If you fail in 1 or 2 subjects, you can
appear for the compartment exams.
- Repeat: Failing in more than 2 subjects means you must
repeat the year.
Grace Marks Policy
CBSE has a provision for "Grace Marks" to save
students from failing by a razor-thin margin. This is applied automatically in
cases where a student misses the passing cutoff by 1 mark or if a question
paper had a printing error.
The Grading System (How CBSE Calculates Your Score)
CBSE uses a 9-point Relative Grading system, meaning your
grade depends on how the top students in the country performed.

How to calculate Percentage from CGPA:
Add the grade points of your top 5 subjects -> Divide by
5 -> Multiply by 9.5 .
(Example: CGPA 8.5 x 9.5 = 80.75%) .
What to Do After the Result (2026) ?
1. If You Passed:
- Verify Documents: Check your name, spelling, and date of
birth on the marksheet immediately. Errors must be corrected within one year.
- Digital Copies: Download your Marksheet, Migration
Certificate, and Skill Certificate from DigiLocker. These are accepted by
colleges.
2. If You Need Compartment/Improvement:
- Compartment Exam: If you failed in 1 or 2 subjects, you
will get a chance to take a compartment exam (usually held in July).
- Improvement Exam: If you passed but want to improve your
score (in up to 3 subjects), CBSE allows you to appear for improvement exams.
3. Correction of Name/DOB:
If there is a mistake on your certificate:
- You cannot apply directly. You must go through your school.
- The school verifies the error and submits it to the CBSE
regional office.
- Fee for name correction is generally Rs 1,000.
Avoid Scams: Do not fall for fake news or
"pay-for-marks" scams circulating on WhatsApp. CBSE results are
always available for free on the official `results.nic.in` portal. The board
has not authorized any private website to host results.
The official date will be announced on cbse.gov.in in late April 2026. Best of luck!
